LEARN TO ROW

So you have watched the Oarsome Foursome and think it looks easy, or been down to the Yarra in the evening and seen a sculler peacefully gliding down the river and you think… I'd like to do that!

RRC has a strong tradition in teaching people to row and runs Learn To Row programs throughout the year.

Program Outline

Four sessions, each lasting approximately 90 minutes will equip you with enough rowing basics for you to join a social or competitive Beginner/Novice crew.

During the sessions you will:
  • Master the basic rowing stroke on our specially designed rowing machine
  • Learn to row in a crew of four
  • Learn the difference between bow side and the bow of the boat and many other rowing terms

The courses will be held on Sunday afternoons between 12 noon & 2 pm.  Make sure you turn up by 11.45am to ensure a prompt start.

Cost

$140 inclusive of all equipment and coaching.

For more information on memberships, refer to the Memberships page.

What do I need to bring?

  • Sandals or thongs that you don't mind getting wet - Most Important!!
  • Close fitting workout clothes that do not restrict your movement
  • Hat
  • Sunscreen
  • Sunglasses on a sunny day
  • Water bottle
  • Spare socks
  • Sneakers or running shoes for using the rowing machine.

What next?  The Development Squad (DS)

On completion of the course you will be invited to join the club as a member of the Development Squad (DS).

The Development Squad training program continues where the Learn to Row course leaves off.  Unlike many other clubs, this program is included in membership fees, and is specifically tailored to those that have learned the basics of rowing, and want to improve their technique.

From there, the choice is yours.  Choose social rowing, or join one of our squads as a competitive rower.
